Physical Tests

This chapter covers many simple tests that act like a "fingerprint" for a drug or chemical. They check things like color, melting point, and how it bends light, without destroying the sample.

Think about this:

  1. If a pharmacist receives a white powder that is supposed to be pure Aspirin, what are two simple physical tests (from the chapter) they could do first to check if it's the correct substance and not mixed with something else?

  2. Why is it useful to have a non-destructive test (one that doesn't ruin the sample) like checking color or refractive index as a first step?
