يهدف المقياس إلى فهم سياق ظهور النظريات (مثل الكلاسيكية، الماركسية، والكينزية) وكيفية استجابتها للأزمات الاقتصادية في زمنها، مما يمنح الطالب رؤية نقدية تمكنه من فهم أصول السياسات الحالية. باختصار، هو دراسة "كيف ولماذا فكر الإنسان اقتصاديا عبر التاريخ؟".
The History of Economic Thought course is one of the fundamental subjects in economic sciences, as it focuses on studying the evolution of economic ideas and theories throughout history, beginning with their early origins in Eastern and Greek civilizations and extending to modern and contemporary schools of thought.
The course aims to understand the context in which economic theories emerged (such as Classical, Marxist, and Keynesian theories) and how they responded to the economic crises of their respective periods. This provides students with a critical perspective that enables them to understand the foundations of current economic policies.
