INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE:HISTORY OF LAW
History of Laws is a scientific discipline that studies the historical development of law. It is a subject of paramount importance for understanding different legal cultures, the emergence of the modern legal profession and why law looks the way it does today.
Legal history or the history of law is the study of how law has evolved and why it has changed. Legal history is closely connected to the development of civilisations and operates in the wider context of social history. The legal history as the recording of the evolution of laws and the technical explanation of how these laws have evolved with the view of better understanding the origins of various legal concepts. Legal historians have tended to analyse case histories from the parameters of social-science inquiry, using statistical methods.

The course purposes
Legal history enriches our understanding of the law, enhancing our grasp of current problems and empowering us to imagine new alternatives. Scholars examine how legal ideas, doctrines, and institutions change over time, exploring how they shape social, cultural, political, and economic contexts. Legal historians are guided by figures like judges and legislators as well as ordinary people, who give voice to their own ideas of what the law is and should be.
The course aims to present the basics of history of law in the ancient time, its development throughout the ages and its similarities with contemporary international law. The study of legal history broadens and deepens our grasp of the role of law in our lives by situating it in lived experience over time.
