General Introduction to the Module: Computer Science 1

This Computer Science 1 module is designed to provide first-year students in the Matter Sciences Bachelor's program with a solid foundation in basic computer science and programming concepts. The course is structured into four chapters:

  1. Introduction to Computer Science: This chapter introduces the basic concepts of computer science, covering essential definitions, various hardware and software components, and the architecture of a computer.
  2. Binary Coding: Here, we explore the binary numbering system, conversions between numerical systems (decimal, binary, octal, hexadecimal), and coding techniques used in computing.
  3. Algorithms and Flowcharts: This chapter focuses on teaching the fundamentals of algorithm design and the creation of flowcharts. Students will learn how to structure and visually represent solutions to problems in a logical and sequential manner.
  4. Fortran Programming: To conclude the module, students will be introduced to programming with the Fortran language. They will learn to write, compile, and execute simple programs by applying the concepts covered in the previous chapters.
